ITM-Mongolia 2024: International Travel Mart

Greetings

I extend warm greetings to the esteemed members of the Mongolian Tourism Association, supporters, colleagues in the tourism sector, both domestic and international partners, tourists, and all those interested in travel and tourism.

I extend warm greetings to the esteemed members of the Mongolian Tourism Association, supporters, colleagues in the tourism sector, both domestic and international partners, tourists, and all those interested in travel and tourism.

This year, we proudly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the tourism sector in Mongolia, marking a significant milestone since the establishment of the Tourist Service Bureau in 1954. Over these seven decades, our industry has evolved into a vital driver of national growth, particularly following the transition to democracy and a market economy in 1990.

As we reflect on our journey, we recognize the significant milestones that have shaped modern tourism in Mongolia. From the early days focused on leisure travel to a flourishing landscape that includes a rich tapestry of recreational opportunities, we have witnessed remarkable growth and transformation. The dedication and resilience of our tourism professionals—wealth creators and businesses—have been instrumental in navigating the challenges and opportunities that have arisen.

As the oldest organization in the tourism sector, the Mongolian Tourism Association has played a pivotal role in advocating for the interests of private businesses. For decades, we have represented our members collective voice in tourism policy, serving as a crucial bridge between the public and private sectors. Our commitment to enhancing tourism resources, promoting economic value, and ensuring high service quality has been unwavering.

We have collaborated closely with the Government of Mongolia, foreign embassies, private enterprises, international organizations, and NGOs to promote Mongolia as a unique travel destination. Our focus on sustainable tourism, deeply rooted in our nomadic culture, remains paramount as we work to protect the interests of our members and enhance the reputation of Mongolian tourism on the global stage.

As we celebrate this 70th anniversary, we reaffirm our common goal: to advance the tourism sector with a professional emphasis on social and economic impact while respecting our natural and cultural heritage. We are dedicated to aligning with national development policies and strategic frameworks, enhancing industry returns, and improving the quality of products and services to ensure international competitiveness.

I invite all colleagues, members, supporting companies, and partners in the tourism industry to join us in commemorating this milestone. Together, let us create a thriving environment through tourism that reassures our future. I encourage you to promote sustainable tourism enriched with world-class services while preserving the heritage and culture passed down from our ancestors.
Sincerely,

Associate Professor Damba Gantemur, Sc.D.

President of the Mongolian Tourism Association
